For many years I lived off the grid on an isolated island in the Salish Sea. Although I now live in a tiny house with electricity and neighbors, I still am drawn to the solitude of the forests and beaches of my island homes. Humans have lived in my area since the glaciers retreated, interacting with the landscape in ways both nurturing and devastating. Seeing how that interaction plays out over the years is a recurring theme in my art as well–dogs, rusting car carcasses, old people, and roads inhabit my tree-spangled canvases.
