Living in Japan for three years as an early teen opened my eyes to a new aesthetic. As a textile artist I have studied the Japanese techniques of kasuri (a form of ikat dyeing), katazome (stencil dyeing), shibori (shape resist dyeing), sakiori (ripped silk weaving), and sashiko (embroidery techniques). These rich traditional art forms often embellish my handwoven cloth to create one-of-a-kind jackets and tunics. I also like to pair my handwoven cloth with vintage kimono silk and Nishijin-ori (woven obi cloth) that I seek out in Kyoto temple markets.
I believe clothes should be a pleasure to wear and fun! Clothes express who we really are and who we might want to be.
